Kathua:- Another milestone was achieved in the modernization and mechanization of Agriculture with the introduction of “SUPER SEEDER” to sow seed village wheat crops in the District Kathua. Sh. Sanjeev Rai Gupta, Chief Agriculture Officer, Kathua, inaugurated wheat sowing using “SUPER SEEDER” in village Mada of Panchayat Mukundpur, Block Marheen of district Kathua.
Chief Agriculture Officer Kathua Sh. Sanjeev Rai Gupta said “SUPER SEEDER” is a Multipurpose machine to complete every need of farmers. It sows wheat even in standing paddy stubble. The main function of the “SUPER SEEDER” machine is to plow standing paddy stubble in soil and sow wheat seed simultaneously in a single operation after harvesting the paddy with a combined harvester.
It mixes standing paddy stubble 12 to 18 inches into the soil and then sows wheat seed 2-3 inches deep. Also, it cuts down the consumption of grains by about 10 percent. In one hectare area, there is a need for one quintal wheat seed with the traditional sowing method. On occasion, Sh. Raju Mahajan District Agriculture Officer( Extension), Kathua, said “SUPER SEEDER” is also extensively used for planting various seeds like wheat, soybean & grass.
Sh. Vijay Kumar, the progressive farmer from Mada village, appreciated the Agriculture Department, Kathua’s efforts to facilitate the use of “SUPER SEEDER” and expressed his happiness over the reduced cost of sowing the wheat crop.
It is pertinent to mention that the Department of Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Kathua is facilitating farmers in purchasing modern farm machinery on departmental subsidy per various schemes’ guidelines.
Another present on occasion was Sh. Sanjeev Mehta, Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer, Kathua, Sh Sanjeev Chib A.E.O (Airwan), and officials from the agriculture zone of Airwan.
