IIT Jammu felicitates tribal researcher  Javaid Rahi

IIT JAMMU (Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu) today felicitated  noted tribal  researcher Dr. Javaid Rahi  for his  outstanding contributions in the field of preservation and promotion of ethno  Cultural heritage of tribal Gujjars & Bakarwals of Jammu and Kashmir.

He  was honoured  in a ceremony  held at IIT Jammu. Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur,  Director IIT presented a memento to him  in presence of Dr. Quleen Kour –AP & faculty of IIT who is presently looking after the headship of a prestigious  project on preservation of Gujjars, Bakarwals & Gaddi Culture of J&K  a joint venture of Tribal Research Institute J&K ( Tribal Affairs Department ) and IIT , Jammu.

A number of dignitaries, faculty members, scholars, artists and students were in the programme.

 Dr. Javaid Rahi, has written one dozen books and compiled five dictionaries including first-ever  monolingual Concise Gojri Dictionary comprising of 70 thousand words with meaning including first ever Hindi – Gojri Dictionary, Folk-lore Dictionary of Gujjar tribe (in two volumes) and encyclopaedia of Himalayan Gujjars .Besides this , he has edited more than 300 books, issues of journals published in English, Urdu, Gojri and other regional languages by JKAAL where he is working as Chief Editor.                     

Under his  convenorship  JK Board of School Education (BOSE) has prepared curriculum in  Gojri for schools  for 1st to 8th stranded .

He has  also awarded by J&K Govt –Tribal Awards -2022 of JK Tribal Affair Department, Best book Award by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, BGSB University Rajouri, University of Jammu,All India  Radio and others he is recipient of National Fellowship Award from Ministry of Culture, Government of India New Delhi which was confer upon him for his outstanding contributions in the field of tribal Literature.
