Season’s first snowfall in Sonmarg: Snowfall and rain have brought down the temperature in almost all areas of Kashmir, due to which the Horticulture Department has also asked the fruit growers to speed up the harvesting of apples.
Sonmarg in Kashmir received the first snowfall of the season on Thursday. Officials said Sonmarg received an average of one inch of snowfall, bringing joy to hundreds of tourists staying there.
It also rained in Sadana Top, Machil and Gurez while it rained all over Kashmir. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that more rain and snow are likely in parts of Kashmir before the weather improves. “The weather is likely to improve by late night today [Thursday],” an IMD official said.
Snowfall and rain brought down the temperature and the Horticulture Department also issued an advisory to fruit growers to speed up apple harvest.
The IMD said that a fresh Western Disturbance is approaching the region and may result in heavy snowfall and rain.
