Warm ties between JMC, traders good for Jammu: CCI

The excellent relationship between Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and the trader fraternity is a must for ensuring a pleasant atmosphere and the betterment of society in Jammu.

At the outset Sh. Arun Gupta, President CCI, during the interaction with Mayor Sh. Rajinder Sharma and Dy.Mayor Sh. Baldev Singh Billioria at Chamber House stated that specific issues need the kind attention of JMC authorities. Currently, the whole of Jammu City is beautified by constructing footpaths only due to heavy congestion, thus creating many problems rather than providing any help or relief to the public/traders of those areas.

Mr. Gupta further stated that in the areas where footpaths are constructed, there is a need for plantations to make those areas more beautiful.

Arun Gupta said that it was observed that during the JMC officials’ drive in the old city areas, they were in the practice of lifting the items of various traders and shopkeepers, which one believe is not in good taste. When we look at the old cities of northern states, no such drives exist by their respective Municipal corporations. We always believe in and expect a conducive atmosphere for our traders to work, who are the backbone of our economy. Still, these types of practices by the municipal corporation only discourage our traders.

Regarding Smart parking, Mr. Arun Gupta said that we don’t think there is any need to provide such type of parking as today; nowhere in northern states such parking exists.

Sh. Arun also said it is imperative to mention that, at present, Dengu cases have spread all over Jammu, and there is a dire need to intensify the fogging drive to handle the current situation.

Sh. Arun Gupta, however, appreciated the civic body for taking proactive steps to beautify the city of temples and ensuring extreme levels of cleanliness at all the markets and residential colonies. He said that Jammu would soon find a slot in the country’s top list of cleanest cities as JMC has been excellently ensuring neatness and serenity.

Earlier, CCI General Secretary Gaurav Gupta presented a welcome address and anticipated that the change in guard in JMC would act as a bridge between traders and the government while ensuring progress in the efforts taken up by the civic body to make Jammu a better place to live.
While responding to the demand of the CCI head, Mayor Rajinder Sharma said there is no valid reason for any confrontation between JMC and the business class as both are interdependent on each other to ensure suitability for Jammu and its people.

He said that JMC is looking forward to rope in business class to pick up the pace of development in the region through all kinds of help the traders and industrialists can offer. He also said that we are on the job of making our corporation corrupt-free, and if anybody is found involved in such activities, his place is either in Jammu District Jail at Amphalla or in Kot Balwal Jail. He further said that we would honestly work with the active cooperation of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry Jammu.

Deputy Mayor batted for holding threadbare deliberations to remove grudges and ensure better ties between the two entities claiming that it is a must for the good of Jammu and its population. The vote of thanks was presented by Vice President Rajeev Gupta, who said that the trader’s body has high hopes for the leadership of the new mayor and deputy Mayor.

Those prominent persons who were present at the function include Sh. Rajesh Gupta, Secretary, Rajesh Gupta, Treasurer, Sh. Shiv Partap Gupta, Sh. Jagdish Langer, Sh. Ravinder Sawhney, Sh. Balbir Gupta JI and others.
