Namor lives up to his title as one of Marvel’s most powerful characters in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced several powerful comic characters to the big screen in the ten years since its inception. Their most recent was Tenoch Uerta Mejia as Namor in Black Panther – Wakanda forever. Namor joins the ranks of other godlike-powered beings like Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Brie Larson’s cosmic champion Captain Marvel and Josh Brolin’s Infinity Stones-wielding mad Titan Thanos. What are the powers of Black Panther?
Who is Namor in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”?
Namor, the ruler of Talokan’s underwater nation in the MCU, is Namor. After a U.S. mining country discovers vibranium close to his kingdom, Namor steps onto the international stage. Like Wakanda’s, a meteorite that contained vibranium was found in the ocean many years ago. The people of Talokan used it to make clothing and weaponry.
Namor, unwilling to allow his people to be exploited, attacks the surface and warns Wakanda that they must either deliver the vibranium detector scientist to Talokan or attack the kingdom of Wakanda when Namor and his followers wage war on the world’s surface.
Namor isn’t making empty threats. He is strong enough to fly a helicopter like a toy. He is also highly durable because of his strength. Namor’s skin is merely broken when M’Baku ( Winston Duke ) tries to strike him with the war club. Namor returns the favor, punching through Jabari chieftain’s armor and sending it flying in one blow.
Namor’s strength allows him to wield a spear of raw vibranium with extreme power. He can cut through Wakandan ships as quickly as a knife through butter. Namor has wings that enable him to glide and hover in the air, thanks to his ankles. He can also breathe air and water, unlike his Talokanil friends. However, he still needs to recharge by dipping in the water.
How did the Talokanil become so powerful?
Namor reveals the source of Talokanil’s power to Princess Shuri ( Letitia Wright). The Talokan, who had been afflicted by disease and oppression from Spanish conquistadors, found a plant that could change their physiology. It gave them tremendous strength and healing but made it impossible to breathe oxygen unless it came from water.
Namor’s mother, who was pregnant with him at the time, had ingested this plant. This gave rise to his extraordinary abilities. Namor confirms that he is a mutant – he was one of the earliest to join the MCU before the introduction of the X-Men.
What makes Namor’s powers different in comics?
Namor’s powers are a little different in comics. Although he is still a mutant, his powers result from a union between the princess and sea captain Leonard McKenzie. Invaders were his first-ever superhuman team. He also formed partnerships with the X-Men and Fantastic Four. For the longest time, Namor was most associated with the secret superhuman group, the Illuminati.
However, he frequently disagreed with many of the members about their decisions. Huerta’s portrayal of Namor carries his need to protect his people, making him one of the MCU’s most complex and compelling characters.
