WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY ORGANISED BY COMMAND BLOOD CENTRE, COMMAND HOSPITAL NORTHERN COMMAND

World blood donor day is celebrated worldwide on 14 Jun. The theme for this year is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort & save lives”. The day is celebrated to encourage people to donate blood to solidarity with humanity.

Command Hospital Northern Command, Udhampur celebrated World Blood Donor Day with much enthusiasm on 14 June 2022. On this occasion, a motivational and interactive event was organized at Dhruva Auditorium with the participation of officials from local blood banks, NGOs and army personnel in the garrison.

The event was marked by an address by the chief guest Maj Gen SC Dash, YSM, VSM**. MG Medical HQ Northern Command. He emphasized that voluntary blood donation is one of the noblest acts which can be done repeatedly & it highlights the oneness of humanity.

The event was attended by a large number of Officers, JCOs & ranks of the Udhampur garrison along with their families. The talk was well received by the audience & motivated them to donate blood.

MG Medical also felicitated the blood donors who had led from the front and donated blood innumerable times. The Chief Guest said they inspire others to follow suit and participate in blood donation.

On this occasion, Non-Governmental Organisations like “Ek Aur Nek”, Jammu and Kashmir Blood donor organization and “Help N Need” were given a token of appreciation for their work and cooperation.

Maj Prachi, Special Pathology, took a motivational lecture on the benefits of blood donation. A bilingual booklet designed by the Department of Lab Sciences and Molecular Diagnostics was also released by Maj Gen D K Sreevastava, Commandant, Command Hospital, Northern Command. The booklet attempts to answer frequently asked questions related to blood donation.

It is pertinent to mention that Command Hospital Northern Command besides offering blood and blood components to serving soldiers, veterans & their families also extends its services to the local civilian population suffering from thalassemia and other rare hematological disorders.
