Yogesh Sawhney Calls On AICC Leaders in New Delhi discusses Political Scenario of Jammu Kashmir

Former Minister J&K and Senior Congress leader Yogesh Sawhney on Friday met with the AICC General Secretary Incharge of the Organisation, MP Rajya Sabha Sh. KC Venugopal at AICC Office and AICC Incharge Jammu Kashmir, MP Rajya Sabha Smt. Rajani Patil in New Delhi to discuss the political scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.

He also met with Dinesh Gundu Rao, AICC I/C for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Goa. Sawhney had shared a long association with both KC Venugopal and Dinesh Gundu Rao since Youth Congress days. He, later in a statement, affirmed the Congress party’s commitment towards gaining strength in Jammu Kashmir adding that people have been badly affected because of BJP’s unruly policies, and want a change. The Congress party is focussing on organisational strengthening and foundation building.

Sawhney also discussed organisational matters of the Congress party in Jammu Kashmir with them so as to devise a meaningful plan to improve the functioning of the party. The party should make all necessary preparations for upcoming polls and gear up for elections, and discussions were held in the same light during Sawhney’s visit. He said he was thankful to both KC Venugopal Ji and Rajani Patil Ji for their time, and said that he wanted to convey important matters and bring burning some issues to attention that would be elemental in the political landscape of the Union Territory.

The former Minister further stated that Jammu Kashmir is important to the Congress party, which is clear from the fact that national leadership from the Congress party is keen and interested in local needs and demands, and wants to raise Jammu Kashmir’s issues on the national podium, whether it be the demotion from statehood or other local issues. On the other hand, the BJP leadership at the national level has ignored and neglected the people and issues of J&K. No real initiative has been taken by them to help the people, said Sawhney.

Sawhney further added that the agenda of the party leadership in New Delhi must be adhered to, which is that the party must move forward keeping a united front and keeping aside the differences. He said he extended his support in following the leadership of the party’s High-command.  There are a lot of challenges in Jammu Kashmir that have to be tackled, said Sawhney, however, after interacting with the respected leaders, we have been able to put forth our concerns and have also received positive inputs on how to move forward and plan in an effective way for the collective betterment of the party.
